To oversee and manage clinical safeguarding and counselling services within the organisation, ensuring the safety, well-being, and mental wellbeing of service users and colleagues. The Clinical Safeguarding and Counselling Manager will lead a team of clinical professionals, develop and implement relevant safeguarding programs, and ensure compliance with all applicable clinical standards and regulations.


Salary range - £35,000 to £40,000




Leadership and Management:
o Lead and manage the clinical safeguarding and counselling teams, providing supervision, support, and professional development opportunities.
o Develop and implement comprehensive safeguarding policies and procedures to protect mental and emotional wellbeing across the division.
o Design counselling procedures that provide structured support, including confidential counselling services, crisis intervention and escalation processes. 
o Ensure both services operate within budget and meet organisational goals.
Clinical Service Delivery:
o Oversee the delivery of clinical safeguarding and counselling services, ensuring they are accessible, effective, and client centred. 
o Establish clear protocols for identifying, reporting and addressing mental health concerns, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards. 
o Monitor and evaluate the quality of clinical services, implementing improvements as needed.
Training and Development:
o Develop and implement comprehensive training programmes to educate clinical staff on safeguarding and effective counselling techniques. 
o Evaluate the effectiveness of training programmes and make necessary adjustments to enhance learning outcomes and support continuous professional development of clinical staff.  
o Ensure clinical staff maintain their professional development and adhere to ethical and clinical standards.
o Stay updated with the latest developments in clinical safeguarding and counselling practices and integrate the workplace and Maximus Connect services.
Case Management:
o Oversee complex or high-risk clinical safeguarding and counselling cases.  Offer expert, guidance and support to clinical staff, ensuring that all interventions are conducted in accordance with best practice and ethical standards.
o Facilitate case discussions, provide supervision and assist in developing tailored action plans, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of colleagues
o Maintain meticulous and confidential record-keeping of client interactions, safeguarding cases and clinical supervision.  Ensure documentation is accurate and complies with legal and organisational standards. 
Establish and maintain effective communication and collaboration with external agencies, mental health professionals and other relevant stakeholders.
Policy and Compliance:
o Ensure compliance with relevant clinical legislation, regulations, and ethical standards.
o Regularly review and update clinical safeguarding and counselling policies and procedures to ensure these remain compliant with legislation and best practice. 
o Conduct audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential issues, addressing concerns or gaps found to ensure effectiveness of service.
Support and Advice:
o Provide advice and support to clinical staff and service users on safeguarding and counselling-related matters.
o Act as a source of expertise on clinical safeguarding, mental health, and well-being within the organisation,  
o Work collaborative with the Employee Forum and Colleague Led Wellbeing Group to promote a culture of openness and support where clients feel safe to seek help.
Wellbeing Support for colleagues:
o Build wellbeing support for colleagues: Actively listen to colleagues, offer empathy, and create a safe space for them to share their concerns and feelings. Facilitate clinical supervision to support colleagues who work across challenging campaigns.
o Develop Mental Health Programs: Design and implement in hour initiatives that promote mental well-being, such as workshops, stress management sessions, and wellness activities. Collaborate with the employee forum and Central Wellbeing Team to ensure programs are effective and inclusive.
o Monitor and Evaluate: Regularly assess the effectiveness of mental health support solutions through feedback and data analysis. Continuously improve and adapt strategies to meet the evolving needs of colleagues and foster a supportive work environment.

Key Responsibilities
Quantitative Measures:
Incident Reports:
o Track the number of safeguarding incidents reported and resolved.
o Monitor trends over time to identify improvements or areas needing attention.
Training Completion Rates:
o Measure the percentage of staff who have completed safeguarding training.
o Assess the frequency and quality of refresher courses.
Audit Results:
o Conduct regular safeguarding audits to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
o Use audit findings to identify gaps and implement improvements.
Referral Data:
o Analyse the number of referrals made to external agencies and their outcomes.
o Evaluate the appropriateness and timeliness of these referrals.
Qualitative Measures
Staff Feedback:
o Gather feedback from staff through surveys or interviews about their confidence in handling safeguarding issues.
o Assess their understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
Case Studies:
o Review detailed case studies to understand the impact of safeguarding interventions.
o Highlight successful outcomes and areas for improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement:
o Engage with external agencies, such as social services, to get their perspective on the effectiveness of the safeguarding lead.
o Use their feedback to enhance safeguarding practices.
o Working with customers, building the relationship and supporting with customer needs and requirements.
Policy Implementation:
o Evaluate how well safeguarding policies are implemented in daily practice.
o Ensure that policies are regularly updated and reflect current best practices.
Additional Considerations:
o Benchmarking: Compare your clinical services' performance against industry standards or similar organisations to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
o Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement where feedback is actively sought and used to enhance clinical services.
Provide Mental Health Support to Support Attendance
Promote Mental Health Awareness:
o Workshops and Seminars: Regularly organise workshops and seminars on mental health topics to educate employees and reduce stigma
o Mental Health Days: Encourage the use of mental health days to allow employees to take time off to focus on their well-being
Promote Available Resources:
o Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs): confidential counselling and support services
o Mental Health Hotlines: for immediate support.
Early Intervention and Communication:
o Regular Check-Ins: Support Managers with regular check-ins with their team members to discuss workload, stress levels, and overall well-being.
o Clinical Advice: Recommend proactive activities and pathways to individuals to support with their attendance
o Open Communication Channels: Create an environment where employees feel comfortable discussing their mental health without fear of stigma
Promote Healthy Lifestyle Choices:
o Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: Encourage practices like yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises
o Healthy Diet and Sleep: Promote the importance of a healthy diet and adequate sleep for mental well-being
Foster a Supportive Work Environment:
o Peer Support Groups: Establish peer support groups where employees can share their experiences and support each other.
o Mental Health Champions: Appoint mental health champions within the organisation to advocate for mental health and provide support.
Monitor and Evaluate:
o Absence Patterns: Monitor absence patterns to identify potential mental health issues early
o Feedback Mechanisms: Implement feedback mechanisms to continuously improve mental health support initiatives.



Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications:
o Relevant clinical safeguarding and counselling qualifications and professional accreditations.
o Additional training in clinical management or supervision is desirable.
Experience:
o Proven experience in clinical safeguarding and counselling roles, with significant experience in a managerial or supervisory position.
o Experience in developing and implementing clinical safeguarding and counselling programs.
o Experience in managing complex clinical cases and liaising with external agencies.
