Description & Requirements

Be part of something great

Maximus is a global organisation that specialises in providing health and employment services to millions of people every year. Here in the UK, we employ around 5,000 people across the country to deliver services that have a profound impact on people’s lives. From assessments and health services to employability programmes and specialist support, we do work that matters with people who care.

The Role: Transform our clients through cutting edge Digital Solutions

Join our forward-thinking digital organisation as the senior technical authority for integration engineering across Maximus UK. This role will shape the technical direction, standards, and engineering approaches used to deliver secure, scalable, and supportable integration solutions, with strong Boomi expertise at its core.

Working closely with the Manager – Integration and Automation, enterprise and solution architects, delivery teams, and operational stakeholders, you will provide deep technical leadership across integration design, implementation, governance, and optimisation. You will ensure that integrations across Boomi, APIs, data platforms and SaaS applications are resilient, secure, observable, and aligned to enterprise standards and operational needs.

This role is also expected to look ahead. You will help the organisation evaluate and adopt modern integration patterns and engineering practices that reduce unnecessary dependency on specific platforms, improve flexibility, and increase reuse across the estate. This includes exploring API-first design, event-driven integration, cloud-native integration services, and the right use of automation tools (including Automation Anywhere and emerging AI‑enabled approaches) where they create genuine value and better economics.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the principal technical authority for integration engineering across Maximus UK, providing deep leadership across Boomi-based integration solutions.
• Define and maintain integration engineering standards, patterns, guardrails, and best practices for system-to-system integrations, APIs, events, and workflows.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership for the design and implementation of complex integrations built on Boomi and related integration technologies.
• Design scalable integration architectures connecting cloud services, SaaS platforms, enterprise applications and data platforms.
• Drive adoption of modern integration patterns, including API-first design, event-driven architectures, microservices-aligned integrations, and reusable integration components.
• Guide the team’s technical direction, improve engineering quality, and support consistent delivery standards.
• Lead technical discovery sessions, design workshops, and integration architecture discussions with business stakeholders, architects, product teams, and engineering colleagues.
• Translate business and operational requirements into robust integration designs and implementation plans that balance speed, resilience, supportability, and long-term value.
• Establish governance approaches for integration code quality, peer review, CI/CD, testing, deployment, observability, and operational readiness.
• Ensure integrations are secure by design, with appropriate controls for authentication, authorisation, encryption, auditability, and protection of sensitive data including PII and PHI.
• Drive the development of reusable integration components, frameworks, and reference implementations that improve delivery speed, quality, and consistency across projects.
• Mentor and develop integration engineers, raising technical capability, architectural understanding, and engineering discipline across the integration team.
• Evaluate opportunities to simplify the integration and automation estate, reduce platform dependency, and introduce more cost-effective and flexible integration approaches.
• Collaborate with automation specialists (e.g. Automation Anywhere engineers) to define clear boundaries between integration and automation layers and ensure coherent end-to-end designs.
• Monitor technology trends, platform capabilities, and industry best practice in integration engineering, using insight and evidence to evolve the organisation’s integration roadmap

Essential Skills – What You'll Bring

• Significant experience in integration engineering.
• Strong hands-on expertise with the Boomi Integration Platform, including process design, orchestration, integration development, API exposure, and enterprise deployment patterns.
• Proven experience designing scalable enterprise integration architectures across cloud services, SaaS platforms, enterprise applications and APIs.
• Experience delivering complex multi-system integrations that are secure, resilient, observable, and supportable in live operational environments.
• Strong understanding of API-led integration, service orchestration, event-driven patterns, and modern approaches to enterprise integration.
• Practical experience with REST and SOAP APIs, message-based integrations, and event or streaming technologies.
• Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Workday, SAP, ERP, CRM, or case management solutions.
• Strong understanding of data transformation, mapping, validation, and the controls required to maintain data integrity and reliability across integrated systems.
• Strong understanding of secure integration practices, including authentication, authorisation, encryption, API security, and the protection of sensitive data such as PII and PHI.
• Experience defining integration engineering standards, governance approaches, code review practices, and CI/CD patterns for integration deliveries.
• Ability to lead integration architecture reviews, technical workshops, and design sessions, and to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Experience mentoring and guiding integration engineers, helping them improve design quality, coding practices, and architectural awareness.
• Ability to assess new integration technologies and platform capabilities pragmatically, balancing innovation, cost, maintainability, and delivery risk.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate technical complexity, manage trade-offs, and provide clarity in ambiguous situations.

Desirable Skills – What Makes You Stand Out

• Boomi Professional, Boomi Architect, or equivalent integration platform certifications.
• Experience working on public sector, health, or other regulated digital transformation programmes with strong security and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with UK Government digital and security expectations, or similarly governed delivery environments.
• Exposure to automation technologies (e.g. Automation Anywhere) and AI‑enabled orchestration, and an understanding of how they complement core integration patterns
