Description & Requirements

Maximus is seeking a strategic and experienced Managing Attorney to lead legal oversight and compliance for a high-impact public service initiative in Mississippi.

This senior-level role will provide legal guidance, assign cases, and manage complex legal actions of appeals. The Managing Attorney will have statewide oversight of legal services and processes, as well as the development of CSEL legal services and processes. 

The ideal candidate will currently reside in or near one of the following Mississippi cities: Jackson or Ridgeland

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Oversee contract compliance including identifying and mitigating risks.

- Monitor contractually required reports, quality assurance, and corrective actions.

- Develop program goals, propose policy changes, and implement project processes.

- Direct and control broad functional area activities through department managers.

- Lead planning, staffing, budgeting, and method changes.

- Partner with executive management on strategic planning and initiatives.

- Work on complex issues, contribute to corporate development, and ensure corporate requirements are met.

- Regularly interact with executives and major customers.

- Manage project attorneys by providing guidance and legal interpretation of active cases
- Interview, hire, and develop attorneys
- Assign cases to internal attorneys, confirming caseloads are manageable
- Handle the more complex legal actions when a more senior attorney is needed
- Review legal filings and court documents
- Communicate and advise private counsel on cases
- Communicate with project staff regarding legal questions, opinions, and interpretations
- Act as an advisor on legal issues involving compliance
- Review legal data and advise on appropriate legal action to be taken
- Validate project goals are met

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in related field required.

- 10-12 years of relevant professional experience required

Program Specific Requirements:
- Must reside in or near Jackson or Ridgeland, Mississippi
- Willing and able to work onsite 
- Juris Doctorate Degree required
- Admittance to Mississippi State Bar required
- Three-to-five years of legal experience required
- Experience with child support cases or family law preferred
- Experience with Community Resource Support services is a plus
- Past experience in a Managing Attorney role preferred
- Ability to interact with clients, staff, management, court representatives and legal counsel
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to use database management programs, legal applications and state systems required
- Ability to work with culturally diverse populations
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment
- Ability to successfully execute many complex tasks simultaneously

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience. An applicant's salary history will not be used in determining compensation. Maximus will comply with regulatory minimum wage rates and exempt salary thresholds in all instances.
