Description & Requirements

The Cloud Database Operations Intern Database provides technical assistance with database installations, upgrades, patches, monitoring, troubleshooting for major RDBMS databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL etc., This position will also  assist with the database deployments, container management, support and documentation of standards, adhering to the organization's security protocols, change control and audit requirements, policies and procedures for administration of all supported environments.  This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in database management and operations within a dynamic and supportive environment.  This opportunity is remote within the United States, Pacific Time Zone only.

Additionally, the selected intern will gain knowledge of general business principles, corporate organizational structure and government process improvement. Throughout the summer, you will have the opportunity to meet, interact, and collaborate among various project teams, consultants, senior management, executives and peers. Guidance and training on operations standards and protocols will be provided by the Manager. 

BENEFITS / COMPENSATION:
Hourly pay range is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Interns are eligible for benefits. All computer equipment and access to digital systems will be provided to the hired candidate. Students may also complete the internship for academic credit, subject to the qualifications of their academic program. 

PROGRAM DETAILS:
This position requires a commitment of 40 full-time hours per week, with availability during usual business hours (8AM-6PM ET), for the duration of a 10-week summer program: starting Tuesday, May 27th and ending Friday, August 8th, 2025

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work on IT assignments of moderate difficulty, under the direction of a more senior mentor, to build a well-rounded skillset
- Escalate issues and questions to management as necessary
- Participate in group discussions with peers or external groups to solution problems of moderate scope
- Participate in meetings to gain process knowledge and guidance on assigned projects
- Read, understand and perform assignments within prescribed guidelines
- Approach challenges and create solutions with a critical thinking and customer service mindset
- Prepare standard reports and presentation materials.


- Utilize automation and pipelines to efficiently build and manage databases
- Support the team in setting up monitoring configurations, creating alerts, and implementing anomaly detection
- Promptly responding to alerts for cloud databases
- Leverage and build automation to streamline repetitive tasks with a focus on reducing operational costs.
- Help adhere to the organization’s security policies while creating databases, security groups, VPCs, etc.
- Follow the organization’s change control policies.
- Assist in attending to Service Now, Jira tickets within the defined SLAs.
- Help with internal and external audits related to database users, roles, and security.
- Assist in addressing any security exceptions flagged by management or security tools.
- Support the organization’s disaster recovery efforts, design reviews, and documentation reviews.
- Document procedures and processes as needed and help maintain their accuracy.

Minimum Requirements

- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a college degree in a related major including systems, technical, engineering, analytics, or similar field.
- Must have completed 2 years of coursework.
- Good organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
- Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
- Limited use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts.

- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of database concepts and SQL.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
