Description & Requirements


Maximus is seeking a Network Engineer to support our DoD customer in the Ft. Meade, MD area. The Network Engineer is responsible for designing and planning network communication systems. This position includes designing network architecture, conducting cost/benefit analysis, selecting efficient hardware/software, testing designs, monitoring hardware, planning upgrades, advising on requirements, and maintaining technical expertise in network interconnections and new communication technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design and plan network communication systems.
- Provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
- Conduct cost/benefit analysis and select efficient hardware/software solutions.
- Test network design and monitor hardware operations.
- Plan enhancements and upgrades to the network.
- Advise users on hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations.
- Maintain technical expertise in network and computer hardware interconnection.
- Evaluate new communication technologies.
- Determine user requirements and design specifications for networks and IT systems.
- Monitor networks to ensure network availability.
- Perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
- Plan, schedule, and conduct installation of new or modified hardware and associated software applications.
- Design and conduct tests and evaluations of IT networks and systems.
- Analyze and organize hardware and software solutions through network modeling and planning.
- Evaluate new IT network technologies and make recommendations for integration.
- Plan new network configurations and integration to maintain optimal performance.
- Provide subject matter expertise for joint full spectrum (terrestrial and space) network interoperability and integration.
- Collaborate with federal labs and research organizations to support emerging technology initiatives.
- Execute processes to obtain system operations approval from the Government.
- Perform engineering services for commercial technologies like big data platforms or cyber weapons.
- Support mission systems by developing requirements for mission systems and networks.
- Analyze cyberspace policies and provide technical expertise on related reports.
- Develop operational plans integrating short-term strategies with long-term priorities for cyberspace capabilities.
- Support capability modernization efforts, including transitioning to cloud-based environments or 5G capabilities.
- Develop architectural designs and perform security remediation measures.

Minimum Requirements: 

Journeyman

- Security Clearance: Must have an active DoD Top Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) OR must have held an active DoD Top Secret clearance within the past 2 years and be in-scope for reinstatement

- A Bachelor's degree is required for this position. 4 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement. An Associate's degree and 2 years of relevant work experience may also be considered in lieu of the degree requirement

Senior

- Security Clearance: Must have an active DoD Top Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) OR must have held an active DoD Top Secret clearance within the past 2 years and be in-scope for reinstatement.

- Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 9 years of related military / professional experience in engineering, or a Master's degree in STEM discipline and 7 years of related military / professional experience in engineering, or a PhD in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related military / professional experience in engineering.

Preferred Key Skills:

Knowledge and experience with the DevSecOps methodologies and practices

- Knowledge and experience with the Software Development Lifecycles (SDLC)

- Experience with root cause investigations, fielded issue investigation, and operational missions


- Cloud-based architecture, and virtual network expertise
- Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments.

- Assignments may be broad, requiring originality and innovation in task accomplishment.

- Operates with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems.

- Contributes to deliverables and performance metrics where applicable.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience. An applicant's salary history will not be used in determining compensation. Maximus will comply with regulatory minimum wage rates and exempt salary thresholds in all instances.
