Description & Requirements

Maximus is seeking a Senior Principal Architect to lead the technical strategy and digital roadmap for a federal government agency. This pivotal role involves setting the direction for architecture, governance, and solution design while aligning with the organization enterprise architecture. The ideal candidate will be adept at defining and implementing architectural principles, making strategic technology recommendations, fostering new technology adoption, and building trust with key business stakeholders. You will work closely with senior management to communicate the requirements needed to advance architectural and digital goals. You will mentor team members and collaborate across various teams and functions, engaging in both technical discussions with developers and business process conversations with functional leaders. In this role, you will support data capture and processing to ensure seamless integration within the business architecture. Perpetual processing will be a key focus, aligning with the information and application architecture to maintain continuous data flow. Additionally, the role requires delivering systems management services to ensure all architectural solutions align with organizational requirements and performance benchmarks.

This position is expected to be a hybrid role, requiring on-site presence in Maryland 2-3 days per week.

- Partner with business leaders and technology teams to develop tech and digital strategies that align with business objectives.
- Lead the selection of methodologies, tools, and components for all digital solutions.
- Set the strategic technical direction in line with business strategies and technology standards.
- Stay informed about current and emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Review and approve design solutions with a focus on innovation and business needs.
- Develop reference architectures, capability models, and IT roadmaps.
- Collaborate with other architects to understand the enterprise landscape and make informed architecture decisions.
- Ensure alignment of Mission Architecture with Enterprise Architecture direction.
- Work closely with cross-functional and technical teams to provide guidance and advocate for the benefits of proposed solutions.
- Act as a key technical resource in crafting strategic roadmaps, strategies, and plans.
- Translate complex technical solutions into terms that are understandable for business partners.
- Enhance and support system development throughout the Software Development Lifecycle, adhering to IT methodologies and team guidelines.
- Create and maintain system documentation, including proposals, designs, and test specifications.
- Provide end-user demonstrations and support as needed.
- Analyze existing systems to identify areas for improvement, optimization, or retirement.
- Assist in solution design based on business requirements and collaborate with software engineers and architects on prioritization.
- Coordinate with external groups on technical issues, data mapping, and solution delivery.
- Support the adoption of new technologies and capabilities.
Minimum Requirements
TCS216, T6, Band 9
- Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years’ experience in system engineering and architecture, design, and delivery. Master's Degree Preferred. Additional years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Expertise in designing and integrating complex systems.
- Expertise in various architectural domains (application, data, infrastructure, integration), with a focus on business architecture.
- Extensive knowledge of multiple technologies and their capabilities and constraints.
- Understanding of subsystem designs and interoperability within product technology stacks.
- Awareness of the full scope of requirements for market-ready solutions (infrastructure, QA, security, etc.).
- Strong negotiation and facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of current and emerging architecture principles, methodologies, and tools.
- Experience negotiating with vendors for products and services.
- Effective communication skills at all organizational levels, both written and verbal.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience. An applicant's salary history will not be used in determining compensation. Maximus will comply with regulatory minimum wage rates and exempt salary thresholds in all instances.
