We are seeking a PR, Communications and Marketing intern, who is full of creative ideas and eager to contribute to a broad range of communications and marketing projects and initiatives. The intern will gain visibility into the inner workings and aspects of the public relations, communications, and marketing fields, provide concrete deliverables, and learn from a diverse set of colleagues.
In this role, you will be working closely with a variety of communications professionals and staff from other departments.
*Please note this position is hybrid, preferring the intern to reside within commutable distance of our McLean, Virginia Headquarters office.
To be a successful PR, Communications, and Marketing intern, applicants should enjoy working on projects requiring creativity and outside of the box thinking and be a confident public speaker and independent worker with strong writing, research, and communications skills. Ultimately, an outstanding PR, Communications, and Marketing intern should be able to help us look for ways to tell our company's narrative and maintain and boost Maximus’ corporate reputation.
Additionally, the selected intern will gain knowledge of general business principles, organizational structure, and process improvement. Throughout the summer, you will have the opportunity to meet, interact, and collaborate among a variety of communications professionals and staff from other departments. Guidance and training on operations standards and protocols will be provided by the Manager.
BENEFITS / COMPENSATION:
Hourly pay range is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Interns are eligible for benefits. All computer equipment and access to digital systems will be provided to the hired candidate. Students may also complete the internship for academic credit, subject to the qualifications of their academic program.
PROGRAM DETAILS:
This position requires a commitment of 40 full-time hours per week, with availability during usual business hours (8AM-6PM ET), for the duration the summer program: starting Tuesday, May 26th and ending Friday, August 7th, 2026
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize the development and creation of content for press releases, social media platforms, newsletters, website and/or other communication channels.
- Assist with the research and drafting of reports, presentation materials, and other documents.
- Provide assistance with the scheduling and organizing of events and drafting communications materials.
- Communicate routine information in a clear and accurate way with internal & external contacts.
• Monitor and provide summaries of media coverage on events and issues vital to Maximus.
• Assist with content creation for corporate external channels.
• Support public relations, digital marketing, and external communications projects.
• Collect and analyze data across CRM, digital marketing, and sales enablement platforms.
• Perform competitive market analysis to identify areas of opportunity.
- Currently in progress to attain a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
High School diploma or equivalent and 0-2 years work experience
- Able to read, understand and perform assignments within prescribed guidelines.
- Strong ability to communicate routine information in a clear and accurate way with internal & external contacts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfortable with public speaking.
• Sound understanding of the government contracting industry and a desire to learn.
• Strong knowledge of copywriting and editing.
• Good research and analytical skills.
• The ability to prioritize your workload and meet deadlines.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point.
* Preference given for a rising junior or senior level student.
